Clontarf enjoy dream indoor debut
2 months ago by Abbo

Clontarf qualified for the final 8 of the national indoor trophy after a cracking debut day performance at Dcu in the group of death.

First up for the tarf were Ucd and 40 minutes later we left the court delighted with an 8-0 win, a smooth transition from the outdoor game too the indoor style. Goalscorers were Poynts (3), abbo (2) nate (2).

Second up were last years runners up Ymca, 1-1 at half time unfortuantly though we couldnt convert some chances that came our way and were on the wrong end of a 3-2 result, goals from munch bunch forrest and abbo.

What with a win and a lose it was in our own hands, if we beat corinthians in the last game we would be through..and not only did we beat them we played them off the court saving our best performance till last. we came through 5-2 winners with kev King (2) Laurence Docherty (2) and poynts finding the net (CAGE For you nate dog).

Big thanks to all those who came out to support, also big thanks to Jonny Smyth for coaching and getting us organised. Also thanks to Ian smith (manager ) and nikki mcmullen (physio)who got us in great shape throughout the day.

One final mention must go to our 2 guest players who were absolute class throughout the day- English man Kev King and dutch/scotsman Laurence Docherty.

Finals day is sat 6th and sun 7th feb in the national basketball arena in Tallaght

I'd just like to also thank Abbo for all his effort in getting the ball rolling way back in October and for all the organising he's done since, including a vital friendly against Railway.  I know that all the lads had a fantastic day yesterday and qualifying was an added (and very welcome) bonus.  I'd also like to reiterate Abbos thanks to all mentioned above, particularly Jonny Smyth who has worked tirelessly with us over the last couple of months and his knowledge of the indoor game is simply phenomenal.  Again thanks to Smythy and Nikki for all their hard work on the day.  And finally thanks to Kev and Laurie, it was a real experience to share the court with players of their calibre and it will most certainly help in the development of our younger players (and I don't count myself in those numbers!!!!)

Congrats to all the squad and I know that everyone is dying for Finals Weekend and can't wait to get training again in January.

Seasons Greetings to all.
