The ladies seconds team were in action this weekend against a determined Genesis side (1 point above us in the league table) out in UCD. Despite the windy conditions tarf battled both the weather and Genesis to secure another point for the ladies seconds team squad.
The first half involved the tarf squad finding their feet whilst solidly passing the ball around the pitch to find that much needed gap. Unfortunately Genesis secured a short corner early on and conceeded the first goal of the day. A strong tarf side continued to fight for the remainder of the first half and a great performance by the midfielders who consistently continued to mark their players well and by goalie Fiona who kept Clontarf in the game for the second half by saving many goals attempted by Genesis.
After much needed words of wisdom and trusty diagrams from Lynn at half time, the second half start saw a much improved clontarf performance and a number of chances for tarf were created by both short corners and open play. Clontarfs determined defenders moved the ball quickly and swiftly along the back line, creating gaps for tarf to score a much needed goal. Eventually the tarf forwards began to find their range resulting in a goal in the last ten minutes when a heavily weighted ball was fired into the top of the D, after been controlled by Aoife, the goalie dived allowing her to push pass the ball to a well positioned Susan D who finished with a well deserved Clontarf goal. The game finished 1-1 with Clontarf securing another point in the league table.
