Ladies thirds went out to Old Alex needing 3 points more than ever before. We had a few players playing in “alternative” positions, but this didn’t stop the fight! The first half was kicked off with Ailish O’Neill giving a lovely pass to Martha Delaney in the circle and Martha nicely buried it. The backs weren’t getting away with an easy match either, they were kept busy by Alex who got a goal back shortly after, but Clontarf answered that nicely with Ailish giving another one of her specialities, a perfect pass in the circle to Katie Conaty for another burying, making it 2-1 at half time.
The second half saw Sue Lawless hitting the back board for the 3rd Tarf goal. Alex pressed hard down the Clontarf end, but our backs did really well keeping them at bay, and kept a clean sheet in the second half. Clontarf then got a short corner, at which Ailish was kindly asked to bury it when the ball was to be passed to her from the top of the circle, although it’s a rarity for Ailish to do as she’s asked, she hit the target beautifully anyway, making a comfortable margin for the last few minutes of the match. A super team performance, and thanks to those who doubled up on Saturday.
