The men’s first team were looking to build some momentum after a positive but inconsistent start to the season against an Avoca side who have gotten off to a hot start themselves. In what was a very wet and windy Bull Ring, we started the game well by zipping the ball around and setting up camp in Avoca’s half. Our dominance failed to deliver many clear-cut chances and as the half wore on, Avoca began to muster up some well worked counter attacks which yielded a few short corner chances. In the absence of DLaw in goal, Senan stepped in and was solid throughout, comfortably dealing with Avoca’s corners (with a little help from his post men too!).

The second half began much like the first with a steady flow of Clontarf attacks resulting in a few corners of our own which weren’t converted as well as a mad scramble which ended up with Bobbo hitting the post. The game became stretched in the last 15 minutes as we continued to push for a goal leading to temperatures rising on the pitch. Scott served a 5-minute yellow card for politely tapping one of Avoca’s players on the bottom and Avoca were then reduced to 10 for what can only be described as an attempt on Lenno’s life. Once we had our full complement back, we stepped up our press in an attempt to find that elusive goal but despite creating one more golden chance, it unfortunately wasn’t to be. We would have to settle for a point.

We were definitely the more frustrated side at the final whistle but there were many positives to take from a very good performance. We hope to get back to winning ways this Saturday versus Dublin North in the Mills Cup at 12:30 pm in the Bull Ring.
