The ladies 1s got their first points of the Div 1 this Saturday with a 2-2 draw versus Avoca in the Bull Ring. A great crowd turned up to watch and provided great sound effects throughout the game. The first 10 minutes started well for Clontarf but they found themselves 1-0 down through a quick break from the Avoca defence. Having found themselves in this position quite often so far this season, the girls didn’t give up!

Sorcha gave a great pass from defence straight into Robyn’s path in the Avoca D. Robyn’s quick turn left the defender on her back. Her strike was then touched by Ciara and tapped in by Alannah at the back post (congrats Alannah on her first ‘Tarf goal for the Ladies 1s!). Dave was happy enough at half time but everyone knew we could win the game!

The second half started pretty much the same as the first! Avoca scored within 10 minutes, but again the belief was strong. Great pressure from Catherine in the press led to a short corner. The “Oscar-winning” short corner worked perfectly, Emer’s initial strike was saved and great rebound work led to the ball hitting an Avoca foot on the line..stroke given. Sadbh stepped up for the second time this season to take the stroke and scored. It was game-on!

The game was to end in a draw with great saves coming from Anna in top form. Becky McMullen came exceptionally close at the end of the game, with a great reverse strike forcing the goalie to make a great save.

Onwards and upwards from here!
