South Dublin geared itself for an epic clash, never mind the Ireland V Italy rugby match, it’s about Clontarf II V Monkstown. Changing room banter revolved around Susie’s tan and she revealed some of her top tips for an even bright glow. From a distance she could be mistaken for Bundee Aki. Lorna arrived late and sweaty, someone said she came from the Firsts game but who knows what she was up to. She plays exactly like Peter O’Mahony, a workhorse who never gives up. A player we couldn’t perform without.
Skipper Meabh led us out into the southsiders dry sticky water based pitch. Maybe someone should tell them the water charges have been lifted!? The first half was ours even if the score didn’t reflect it (0-0). We had Monkstown under constant attack especially from major threats Grace, Rebecca and Hannah.
At half time Bobbo was much like Joe Schmidt, a tactical genius. His secret plan was to get the ball from the back to centre mid Stano then out to either line working forward for an aggressive attack. Jacqui went rouge more than once hitting the ball direct from right back to left wing to create even more chances.
Eventually in the second half Monkstown caved under the intense pressure. Lou Lou who has a whif of Jordan Larmour (young, sparky, impressive) had a shot which fell to Lauren for the finish. We maintained tightness and composure at the back with Clontarf’s sweetheart defender Katie and Andy who’s only made 1 mistake in her whole hockey career. Elaine was our rock in goals who can read the game like Mystic Meg looking into the future.
Thanks to Sadbh for reffing, Dave for watching and our extensive fan base. We couldn’t do it without you.
